Mind Pliers

Available as an enamel pin and as a sticker. This is the first Mind Plier that I designed.

On September 5, 2020, a tragic accident in Kansas City took the life of a man who was full of charisma, joy & love. A lot of that love was for my cousin, Michele. As Michele, friends & our extended family coped with that comet, several more impacted the clan. Michele advised another cousin that “if I fucking can, you fucking can!”

It was appropriate for the occasion. My sister said it needed to be a mantra we could use for many situations. We thought of a code & then I decided the format of “if-then” would work nicely.

The colors gold & red honor Michele & Michael’s love of the Pittsburg State Gorillas & Kansas City Chiefs. Turquoise & purple are favorites of a bunch of family members.

If a conversation starts because of this “code”, we can say to live fully; love, love, love; take the pictures; have the adventure; be an organ donor; swear if you need to & know that the person who is remembered never truly dies.

Bio

Quirky SuZ is the result of many creative ventures throughout my life. My parents encouraged all their children to be adventurous and share their talents. I don’t remember any phase of my life when I didn’t have some kind of creative outlet.

I moved to the Ozarks in grade school and down to the borderlands after college. Yes, love was involved! After a few years of odd jobs, I became a high school teacher. For thirty years, I taught United States History, geography, and all other Social Studies subjects at Berryville High School. Teaching, sponsoring Student Council, and coaching Quiz Bowl kept me busy at school. I enjoyed decorating my classroom each year and always tried to make the displays attractive, motivational, and educational.

Through the years, I kept doing creative activities and enjoyed learning new skills. Daily work outfits often included jewelry and clothes that I made. Retirement allows me to spend many happy hours in my studio creating wonderful things to share.

My studio is Iris Cottage. It is a wonderful place to spend time and I am so fortunate to have a dedicated creative space!
