I call these paints Paleo Paints because this is the way paint was made long ago. The primitive drawings in caves used pigments created in the same way as I am creating them today- by smashing and grinding rocks, clay, and herbs. Whereas the ancient ones simply mixed their pigment with water or animal fats, I am using a still quite old recipe of gum Arabic and honey to bind the color in my handcrafted watercolors.

All of the colors I use in my own paintings are created from natural materials sourced right here in the Ozarks, unless I specify otherwise in the painting description.

Bio

I work with the very soul of the Earth: ocher rich stone, naturally pigmented clay, and charred bone. My muse is a savage one, and she forces me to see the duality – the beauty of Nature while acknowledging the brutality. My offering is an opportunity for an intimate communion with the most ancient of life records. All of the colors in my paintings are derived from pigments sourced on or around our land in Madison county of northwest Arkansas, and processed into watercolor or oil paints by hand. It is my passion to showcase the beautiful colors that express the Soul of the Ozarks.
