I make many small boxes on the wood lathe. I always try to do something to add interest to a basically utilitarian item. A special box for a special gift is always appreciated.
The first box pictured was burnt to a crisp with a wood burning tool that I designed.
The rest of the boxes are all segmented. I usually make several at once, but always with small differences. One of my boxes will truly be unique and one of a kind.

I took an early retirement from the telephone company in 2000 to build a new house and shop in beautiful northwest Arkansas. Retirement also allowed me time to run my sawmill. I custom saw for many people who bring any where from one log to a dozen logs. Many times these logs would have ended up in a burn pile.
When not sawing, I work in my shop where “I just make things”. I primarily make products out of wood but I also do some metal work. Production work is boring so I like the one off designs. I am a active member of the Stateline Woodturning Club. I was voted “Woodturner of The Year” in 2020. Some of my woodturnings are normally on display at the Rogers Historical Museum. I have also exhibited work at the Walton Arts Center Joy Pratt Markham gallery during the “Our Art, Our Region, Our Time” exhibition.
As a maker, my goal is to make items that are both useful and beautiful. When I accomplish both, it satisfies my soul.
