This Norfolk Island Pine and Walnut Pedestal Table with Stone Malachite Inlay might end the search for your new favorite table. The hand turned tabletop is Norfolk Island Pine and features a green Stone Malachite Inlay. While turning this top, the voids, knots, and character of wood revealed a yet unexplored corner of the cosmos. The three knot holes caught my attention first as they are in a near perfect astrological alignment, looking like planets hanging dangerously close to an asteroid belt of spalted wood grain, pin holes, and voids. At the edge of the table, a knot hole fell out of the wood leaving a half inch void passing through to the underside, placing a black hole at the edge of this galaxy. But hey, I’ve been starring at it awhile, and you may see something different! It is 15 inches in diameter and stands 23.5 inches tall. The hand turned base is also Norfolk Island Pine, and its footprint is only 10 inches, so it can sit almost anywhere. The base and top are connected with a hand turned Walnut Pedestal and the three are joined using tenons and wood glue, so there is no hardware or assembly required. I hand turned and fitted each piece of this build myself. Not only is the table refined and stylish, but it is also very sturdy and well balanced. This piece is entirely handmade and there will never be another one just like it. I finished this pedestal table with Hemp Oil and Howards Feed-N-Wax which is a combo of Carnauba wax, Beeswax, and Citrus oil. This creates a beautiful, hand rubbed finish that won’t peel or chip. I recommend applying Howards Feed-N-Wax once or twice a year or your favorite polish. Howards is just a rub in, wait 20 minutes, then hand buff off wax that leaves a nice matte finish and adds protection from stains and water. Before it ships, I will have applied several coats of wax to add depth to the finish, but the piece will still feel like wood. The Hemp Oil will last for several years and can be reapplied without stripping the piece in the future. I believe this hand building, finishing, and care process creates a very unique item that looks like it was built a hundred years ago but will endure for generations. The tabletop will remain protected from water, but I recommend using coasters for this or any other wood furniture.
