This Norfolk Island Pine Round Coffee Table stands 18.5 inches tall; the top is 14-16 inches in diameter, and the bottom has a 9-inch round footprint. The tabletop is a solid Norfolk Island Pine round and is 2 inches thick. I left it in a very natural state, so along with the natural wood grain, you see some nice grey and dark tones due to spalting in the wood, a few hairline cracks, and small pin holes. The 11.5-inch-long pedestal was made from four pieces of spalted Walnut that were cutoffs from a larger slab. I flattened those pieces and glued them together into a block before hand-turning them on my lathe. The base is 9 inches round and 5 inches tall. It came from a neighbors Pine tree that had been cut and stacked at the curb to be mulched by the city. It’s been drying in my shop for many years. While turning the base, many pockets and voids where revealed. I inlayed most of the large voids with crushed blue coral limestone, but I left some of the smaller ones natural. The table and base are attached to the hand turned pedestal with fitted tenons, wood glue, and epoxy. The table comes fully assembled and does not break down. I finished the entire piece in Hemp oil for an all-natural, hand rubbed finish. The Hemp Oil soaks deep into the wood fibers and won’t peel or chip like some modern finishes. Then I applied several coats of Howards Feed-N-Wax furniture polish to the entire piece. The wax adds extra layers of protection and water proofing. Howards is made from Beeswax, Carnauba wax, and orange oil. I recommend rewaxing at least once a year to condition the wood, or more often if you prefer the look of it freshly waxed.
